With less than five months remaining in his presidency, a campaign has recently surfaced that encourages President Biden to establish a legacy of nationwide forest protection by designating seven new national monuments throughout the country by adopting "A Monumental Vision for American Forests." This campaign also involves preserving the forested Shawnee by establishing a Shawnee National Monument, while not a national park, establishing a national monument can be accomplished through an executive order and affords far better protections than are granted to national forests and may place the Shawnee a step closer toward national park and preserve designation.
